There's loads going on during Freshers' Week. Here's what we recommend you do:
If you are living in halls on in a shared house, you will be moving in with people that you are likely to be living with for the next year. Knock on their door and say hi - there is a high chance that they won't know anyone either so you can attend some Freshers' events together, plus they may even become lifelong friends.
On Sunday 19th September in the Lounge, in the Union building, you'll be able to chat to student staff who will introduce you to like-minded people.
With your new friends you have either met in your halls or at The Big Meet, come along to the Welcome Party on Sunday 19th September, take a look around your union building and celebrate your arrival at Leeds.
Welcome Talks take place throughout Freshers' Week - the talk for your school or faculty is highlighted in the Gist List or on the Events section of this website. As the Welcome Talks, you will meet Leeds University Union's Student Executive officers and they will tell you about how you can make the most of all the great things on offer to you as a student in Leeds, you'll also hear what to do if things go wrong, find out how to get part-time work as a student, and learn how you're represented by your union.
You have to register with the University at the start of each academic year to become a student of the University of Leeds. It enables you to attend lectures and seminars, receive tuition, sit examinations, register with the Library and other services including becoming a member of Leeds University Union! You can register online from 3rd September if you a new student to the University.
For more information about registering, go to the University's website.
It is a good idea to register with a doctor in Leeds when you arrive at university instead of leaving it until you need medical treatment. We would recommend registering with the Student Medical Practice. More information about registering with a doctor, the Student Medical Practice and other practices can be found on the Help and Advice section of our main site.
Whether you want to try an extreme sport, learn a new skill, or test your footwork at a dance class, there are hundreds of ways to try something new through our clubs and societies. Come along to the Freshers' Fair to meet existing members and find out what to get involved with.
Give It A Go is a programme of taster workshops that run throughout the term. Look out for the Give It A Go programme in Freshers' Week for trips and activities throughout term 1.
Find out more about Give it a Go here.
School Reps exist to voice the views and interests of the students in their school to the University.
