Motion Name:
Should LUU reintroduce the sale of bottled water?
--------------------------
Motion Category:
Wider Society & Citizenship
--------------------------
Motion Wording:
This Union Notes:

1) That the Union has recently banned the selling of bottled water in Extras and Essentials.
2) Extras and Essentials continue to sell sparkling and flavoured bottles of water.
3) The ban on selling bottled water could cost the union £32,000
4) The slogans of the banning campaign were "have you got the bottle vote YES to motion... " AND "Water shoudn't cost the Earth".
5) The ban on bottled water includes ethical water such as One Water

This Union Believes:

1) Students at this university are all responsible adults who should be free to make their own judgements
2) The science on man-made climate change is unsettled
3) That the ultimate goal of the Green lobby should be to change attitudes, which this ban fails to do.
4) That the ban makes a mockery of the notion of ‘Choice’
5) The ban condescends the student body and implies that we are incapable of making responsible and moral decisions ourselves, without the aid of a ban.
6) The £32,000 in loss profit will inevitably affect other areas of the Union, in which the money could be reinvested.
7) The continued selling of flavoured and sparkling water makes a nonsense of the ban on still water.
8) That the union should continue to sell One Water, which provides a great deal of money and resources to projects in some of the poorest parts of the world.

This Union Resolves

1)To rescind the ban of bottled water
2)That students should be able to choose tap or bottled water
3)The union should encourage ‘greener’ attitudes and encourage the use of tap water
4) That the union should start selling still One Water
