Motion Category:

Motion Wording:
This Union Notes:
1.       The government has announced that £915 million will be cut from higher education over the next three years, equating to a 12.5% cut.
2.       The University of Leeds have announced an ‘economies exercise’ to make savings of £35 million in light of the government funding cuts to higher education.
3.       The Leeds branch of the University and College Union (UCU) have entered into a formal dispute with the University over job losses in the Faculty of Biological Sciences, and have voted in favour of industrial action.
This Union Believes:
1.       Cuts to higher education should be condemned.
2.       Students at the University of Leeds deserve a high quality, disruption-free education.
3.       LUU should fight against any negative impact on students resulting from the University’s economies exercise.
4.       That industrial action taken by any campus trade union should not harm the education of students.
This Union Resolves:
1.       To oppose cuts to higher education.
2.       To oppose any aspect of the University’s economies exercise that negatively impacts upon students.
3.       To ensure that students are consulted at every stage of the economies exercise by the University.
4.       To oppose industrial action that disrupts the education of students.
5.       To work with the campus trade unions to organise joint resistance to further higher education funding cuts.
