Contract Checking and Feedback

Already had your contract checked? Take a minute to fill in our quick feedback survey here so we can improve the service for students next year: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8BD3BKT.

Get your contract checked by Student Advice in person or on online for useful advice and info before you sign.

Not sure what to look for when viewing a house?  One of Student Advice’s volunteers can come to housing viewings with you.  They’ll add an extra pair of eyes, help make sure you don’t miss anything out and give you useful info on what to look out for and what questions to ask.  Whilst this service isn’t a substitute for getting your contract checked, and the volunteer won’t be a trained legal adviser, they will be there to support you.  Email sacinfo@luu.leeds.ac.uk to find out more and book an accompanied viewing.

Once you’ve viewed a house, the landlord/agency should give you 24 hours to take the contract away and get it checked.  Watch out for landlords who won’t let you do this or charge you to take the contract away.

Student Advice would strongly recommend going with a Unipol Code of Standards landlord.  Find out more information here: www.unipol.org.uk/Leeds/COS/.  Over 17,000 properties in Leeds are covered by the Code, ranging from 1 to 15 beds.

Student Advice is open every day from 9:30am-5pm and is on the first floor of the Union Building.  The Unipol Bureau downstairs, where you can also get your contract checked, reopens on the 23rd January.

It’s much better to have a contract check in person, but if you can’t get to the Union building, you can use this online contract checker instead: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/onlinecontractcheck2012 and then email advice@luu.leeds.ac.uk if you have any questions.
