REMEMBER - Don’t rush! We recommend you don't begin your search for a house until at least after your exams. With 4,000 spare bedspaces in Leeds, you can rest assured you will find somewhere to live if you wait, and usually get a better deal.
Unipol release their list of accredited landlords’ houses (which we recommend) on 16th January – so there really is no rush. Take your time to decide what you want, and make sure you get the right advice on what to look for and your rights and responsibilities.
Before you start to look for a property browse this website where you can:
- Get simple tips on what to look for security wise when looking round properties
- Watch the ‘childs play’ viral to see how easy it is to get into an insecure property
- Find out what the crime rates are for the main ‘student’ areas
You will be at a higher risk of being burgled when you move into a shared house for the simple reasons that doors and windows get left open and valuables are left in easy reach. Over 60% of burglaries in the student areas including Hyde Park and Headingley are through an open door or window. Taking simple security measures when you move into a shared house means the risk to you and your possessions becomes minimal.
