These awards are an evening to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the Residents' Committees.
Leadership Award
The Leadership Award will recognise an individual who has led and inspired their committee to achieve great things and worked tirelessly to help develop a great sense of community for every resident in their halls. Not only does the committee member need to have taken on the responsibility of leadership for projects within the Residents’ Committee, but they have gone the extra mile to ensure that all elements of residence life have been looked at, and taken into account when planning events.
Personal Achievement Award
Being part of a Residents’ Committee is often very demanding, and can sometimes conflict with academic work and generally getting on with living in halls. The Personal Achievement Award celebrates an individual who has sought to challenge themselves in order to benefit their personal development and has tried their hardest to contribute to the Committee no matter what other commitments they have.
Unsung Hero
The Unsung Hero Award is for the committee member who has put a phenomenal amount of time and effort into the planning and orchestration of Residents’ Committee events. Unsung heroes can always be relied upon to pick up the pieces where others cannot do so, and putting in the extra amount of effort that it takes to make an event successful.
Best Team
The Best Team Award will be given to the committee or sub-committee who have worked effectively together to produce a particular event to an incredibly high-standard or have repeatedly hosted popular, appealing and diverse events for their fellow residents.
Most Effective Use of Budget
Residents’ Committees are trusted with large amounts of money, but the budgets can sometimes seem small when catering for so many people. This award will celebrate the Committee, and their treasurer, who have used their budget effectively to cater for the needs and interests of the residents in their hall, whilst stretching the budget to offer a range of activities.
Event of the Year
The events that Residents’ Committees hold are one of the most important aspects of their roles so whether it is a crazy fancy dress theme, a non-alcoholic party, or raising money for RAG – we want to celebrate the social events that build such a community between residents. There are no fixed criteria so use this as an opportunity to get creative with your events!
Youtube Competition
This is a competition aimed to encourage students to show their halls of residences through their own eyes. The winning entries will go on to be used on the LUU website to show what life in student halls is really like.
Best Sports Officer
This will be awarded to the Sports Officer who has had the most “Sports Captain of the Month” votes! They will have worked hard continuously over the year and supported all the members of their sports teams.
Inclusive Community Award*
The Inclusive Community Award has been set up to encourage Residents’ Committees to make efforts to remove barriers to inclusion within their residence, and to encourage them to engage with the full diversity of the student body. The winning hall of residence will receive £100 towards their Residents’ Committees fund. Two other halls will receive £50 each as runners-up prizes. This money would then be used in one of the end of year events that celebrates the hall’s sense of community.
Green Residence Award*
The Green Residence Award is for the Green Reps from a particular residence who have shown a commitment to encouraging their neighbours in halls to be more environmentally friendly.
