Older People's Computer Club Volunteers
Would you like to share your knowledge of computers with local older people?
Caring Together (www.caringtogether.org.uk) is a charity providing support to older people in Woodhouse and Little London. Along with advice and guidance they also run a range of activity groups.
Two small groups of volunteers are needed to help out at a weekly sessions for older people learning to use PCs.
Silver Surfers computer club: Friday afternoons
This short course is aimed at enabling complete beginners to learn the basics around using a computer, including creating an email account, searching the internet and digital photography.
IT Drop-in sessions: Tuesday mornings
These sessions are for those who have learnt the basics but are now eager to learn and explore a bit more. For some it is about practicing using the mouse and keyboard; others want to know more about social networks or digital photography. The group has equipment including laptops and cameras. Volunteers can act as helpers or can take on a leading role in the activities of the group.
Skills:
Both groups are looking for volunteers who have patience, good communication skills and a genuine interest in working with older people. You don’t need to be an IT expert as long as you can use a computer, send an email, and search the internet. Volunteers will be able to develop their links with the local community as well as building their organisational, teamwork and leadership skills.
To express interest in this role and find out more, or if you’d like to hear about other community volunteering opportunities available, email Shadin Dowson-Zeidan: volunteer@leeds.ac.uk
