We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable volunteers aged 19-25 with experience of working with young people to help deliver the NCS 'Summer of a Lifetime'.  See short video http://vimeo.com/36969494

Volunteer Role Description

You will work alongside Learning Partnerships staff to deliver NCS Summer of a Lifetime and provide a fun and rewarding experience for young people taking part. Volunteers will be involved in planning activities, delivering taster days, the induction, attending residentials and then supporting young people to set up their own projects. Volunteers will provide encouragement and support to young people, recognizing and celebrating progress and helping them to fulfill their potential.

You will have a key role in keeping young people engaged and enthused about the programme.

Responsible to: NCS Co-ordinator

Hours & Commitment: To be agreed with volunteer – will include support throughout the programme and attendance at least one 4-night residential

Dates: Volunteers will support one of two groups of young people. The main activities will take place between the following dates: Group 1: 16th July- 10th August Group 2: 30th July- 24th Aug. However specific volunteering dates can be agreed depending on your availability

Location: Various locations across Leeds and at an outdoor residential centre in North Yorkshire

Skills and experience required:

Essential

-Experience of working with young people (either paid or voluntary)

-Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills including listening and communication skills

-A positive, non-judgmental and supportive attitude

-An understanding of the issues facing young people

-Reliable and flexible with good time management skills

-Ability to act as a positive role model for young people

-Ability to relate to and empathize with young people and to motivate and inspire them to achieve their potential

-Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries with young people

-Good sense of humour!

Desirable

-Specific experience of working with 15/16 year olds

-Experience of working with young people in a residential setting
