Details
New Shoots Garden Group is a parent-led garden group based at Bracken Edge Primary Schoool in LS7. New Shoots do gardening projects with 5-11 year olds, running three sessions per week Spring to Autumn term.
They grow flowers, vegetables, fruit and grain, and are trying to be as sustainable as possible. They have an emphasis on beautifying the school grounds, making strong community links, and recycling. Volunteer activities include supporting children to learn about plants and looking after their local environment.
Skills:
Volunteers should have a prior knowledge of growing, and can then gain experience in a school setting working with children and parents. There will be further opportunities to gain organisational and team working skills through planning sessions, collecting resources, and developing art activities related to growing if the volunteer is keen to widen their role.
Commitment:
Ideally volunteers will be able to participate in one session (one and a half hours) per week. Sessions run on Mondays 3.30-4.30, Tuesdays 9.30 – 10.30 and Fridays 2.30 –3.30.
