We are very pleased to announce the arrival of the LUU Staff Training Programme 2012-13.
The training activities below are available for all staff (both weekly and monthly paid). There’s a range of options available to best suit your learning style including training workshops, University development courses and books. Most of the cost of the training is being met by LUU’s central training budget.
As well as this programme there will also be a separate Development Programme aimed at LUU’s Leaders & Managers. Further info will follow, if you have any queries please contact Georgina Wood at g.c.wood@leeds.ac.uk

Knowledge about LUU
Why is this for me?
Improve your understanding and awareness of where LUU has developed from and where we are now! Particularly great for new staff or as a useful refresher for existing staff; this is great opportunity to ask questions about where LUU has come from to the Chief Executive.

Learn About Other Departments
Why is this for me?
Gain knowledge of other operations and feel like you are part of LUU, not just a single department. It's also a great way to gain transferrable skills and if you're a student, learn about your potential chosen career!
Option 1:
Any member of LUU can take part in the ‘Walking In Others Shoes’ Week running in January and June 2013. This is a great opportunity to shadow a person from another team and find out what goes outside your department.

Take up a volunteer opportunity. Contact Rose Black to find out about current staff volunteer opportunities.
Fundraising Knowledge
Why is this for me?
This is suitable for anyone who wants to improve their ability to write successful fundraising bids and advise our members on fundraising options. This will help you increase the money you raise through successful bids!

Speak to your Manager then contact Georgina Wood who can advise on an appropriate external fundraising training programme.
Employability Skills
Why is this for me?
Learn valuable skills to ensure you compete well in your chosen career path. This is suitable for all weekly paid staff!

Attend an employability Workshop ran by Opportunities. There will be lots of different sessions to choose from, contact Anika Easy, Employability Coordinator for more info.
Time Management
Why is this for me?
This training will help you become more effective with your time to achieve better results. Time management skills are important to achieve quicker, more effective day to day working. The programme will also improve your work-life balance by not having to work long hours!

Designing effective training for others
Why is this for me?
To improve your skills in designing and delivering training to others. You'll pick up great tips on how to train others effectively and efficiently and increase your confidence in a training environment.

Attend a 'Training masterclass at LUU on Thurs 21 February 2013. If you take part, you will become a LUU Trainer and may be called on to deliver up to 4 LUU training sessions per year. Improving Influence
Why is this for me?
This learning will improve your ability to influence others outside of your direct team. It will empower you with the ability to persuade and influence in your work and achieve great results! The reading material is suitable for all members of LUU staff, particularly those who are Big Idea Leaders and Contributors on LUU's strategic plan.

Finance for non-finance folk
Recruitment and Selection
From 1 March 2013 anyone who attends an interview panel at LUU will need to have completed some training on recruitment and selection. Take the training here. This e-learning training takes approx 2 hours to complete. There is a short test at the end, of which you must get 80% to pass. Please print out the certificate and send to HR as evidence of completing the module.
We also run training sessions for members of LUU staff wanting to become an assessor to assist with selecting candidates in our assessment centres. Speak to your Manager first, then sign up to a training session below.
