Social Responsibility
In 2007 LUU launched a new strategy for corporate social responsibility. This reflected a desire to give greater consideration to the impact that decisions made in LUU have on wider society.
As a result of this work we have significantly enhanced the way in which we consider the environment when making decisions and have been successfully awarded a Gold Sound Impact Award, an environmental accreditation scheme seeking to recognised good environmental practice in students’ unions.
All departments have been involved in social responsibility and some examples of work in this area include:
-
A commitment to reduce carbon emmissions by 20% from 2010 to 2014
-
The expansion of the availability of fair trade products in our shops.
-
The promotion of healthy lifestyles to our staff through our wellbeing initiatives.
-
The introduction of recycling facilities throughout the building which mean that 70% of waste generated in LUU is now re-cycled.
Our new strategic plan places emphasis on ensuring LUU is sustainable in every way and we are keen to continue our work to ensure that LUU has a positive impact on society.
