Getting Started: Useful Information and Documents

Frequently Asked Questions

When and how do I get paid?
Everyone at LUU is paid by BACS directly into their bank accounts. If you are a monthly paid member of staff, you are paid on the last working day of the month. If you are a weekly paid member of staff then you are paid on Friday each week.

What do I do if I'm sick?
If you have been with LUU for more than three months, you are entitled to company sick pay. However, in order to qualify for company sick pay, you must follow the correct absence reporting procedure. This includes calling into your manager in person no later than half an hour before your shift was due to start. You must also fill in the correct paperwork when you return. For more information on the absence reporting procedure, visit the managing absence page here.

Where can I get a badge and a purple lanyard from?
Your purple lanyard and badge identify you as an LUU member of staff and also entitle you to a 10% discount in our shops. The badges and lanyards are available from the HR and Admin department. You can call Helen on ext 203, email H.Stewart@leeds.ac.uk or pop in and see us on the first floor between the student advice centre and the marketing office.

How do I book a holiday?
You would submit a request to book a holiday by completing a holiday request form and passing it to your manager to authorise. Your holiday request form can be obtained from the HR and Admin department.

What do I do with my P45?
One copy is for you to keep, two copies can be given to the HR and Admin department who can make sure that they are passed onto the correct payroll person for you. The one for you to keep says “copy for employee".

What do I do if I didn't get a P45?
You should complete a P46 as soon as possible and pass it to Helen, the HR Administrator who can forward it onto payroll. This will prevent you from being emergency taxed.

How do I book onto an induction?
Take a look at the induction programme and contact Helen in the HR and Admin department who will sign you up to the next available dates. There are various bitesize inductions sessions to attend including People and Plans, Diversity, Introduction to LUU's Finances and Customer Service training which take place every other month. If you would like to find out when the next induction is scheduled for, please contact Helen Stewart, HR Administrator on ext 203 or email H.Stewart@leeds.ac.uk.

When do I have my first probationary review?
Your first probationary review should take place at the end of your first month, then at the end of your third month and your final review will be at the six month service date.

Who do I speak to if I have any problems with my pay?
The first person you should speak to is your Manager, who may be able to help you. If you are a weekly paid employee you can speak to Susan Taylor in the HR Department ext. 223, email s.j.taylor@leeds.ac.uk.

What benefits am I entitled to as an LUU employee?
There are lots of great benefits now on offer to you as a member of staff including cheaper travel, sports facilities, a pension scheme, a child care centre and generous holiday allowances. To find out more visit the staff benefits page here.
