Winning Innovation idea

We had 4 great entries in this round of ideas, they are:-

  • Re-launch Gear website by incorporating this into the main LUU website. – Di Harvey
  • Purchase a mobile food cart selling hot items from the Essentials bakery. – Tom Hoslter and Charlotte Petersen
  • Offer 2 current weekly paid staff a one-year Internship programme to work across our departments to broaden their experience and ensure they secure a great graduate job – Gail Hardwick
  • We train our staff to be great trainers so that they can train other staff at LUU to help our members love their time at Leeds. – Georgina Wood

SLT have reviewed them all and we can now announce the winner.

The winning idea was... the Gear website, congratulations go to Di Harvey.  The money will be used to pay a programmer from MSL to integrate www.leeds-gear.co.uk into our website.

We also have good news for the other entrants.

Essentials food cart will go ahead through capex, Train the Trainer will be incorporated into the Training Schedule and the internships will be rolled into the Graduate Leaders programme for interns 2012/2013.

Well done everybody and keep your ideas coming, simply email them innovation@luu.leeds.ac.uk with your idea and costs, the closing date for this round is the end of May, winners will be announced at the Summer Staff meeting.

Technical requests

The Venues department have added Technical Requests to the existing ticketing system for any requests for technical support, technical staff, equipment and for reporting equipment faults. From now on all of these requests should be logged through the ticketing system rather than directly with the technical team. If you have any questions please contact Ryan Esson - Technical Manager on r.d.esson@leeds.ac.uk

Do you know how to build a High Performance Culture?

LUU is a great place to work and we are great at what we do.  But the key to any successful organisation is a Great Culture.  LUU recognised the need to develop its Leaders back in 2010 and launched the cupid program which looks at 6 easy steps to build a High Performance culture.  Two sessions are taking place on 25 January and 10 February which are designed as an introduction or a refresher for anyone who works at LUU. The sessions runs  for 1hr 15 mins and you do not need to bring anything with you.

Please sign up via the o drive below or if you don’t have o-drive access, email Georgina Wood at g.c.wood@leeds.ac.uk

January 25th 1.30pm

February 10th 1.00pm

Emily is Leaving LUU

It is with a heavy heart that the marketing team say goodbye to Emily Carlill next week, as she leaves LUU to begin her very own sewing enterprise.

Emily has worked at LUU for almost five and a half years and has been a valued and key member of the team. During her time at LUU Emily has been integral in the redesign and launch of the latest website, been the vital cog in the MSL machine and has been our resident tweeter and Facebook queen.

We will miss Emily’s lovely calm nature and work ethic, but she leaves her stamp behind in the form of the Common Room ceiling decorations and the Cats Bunting – both Emily Carlill originals! (could be worth a fortune on eBay one day ;-))

We thank Emily for all her work at LUU and wish her all the best on her new venture, which we will follow with interest.

If you have any web queries after Emily has left, please contact Mark Duce in the first instance.

1st Floor drinks station

This week the 1st floor drinks station (Current Staff room) has had a mini make over. A wall has been installed to seperate the space (ready for when the new staff room opens) and a new sink & worksurface have been installed.

This space was open for 4hrs on monday and was found in the below mess.

Please please can you ensure that this space is kept clean and tidy.

Thanks

Student Advice Back Office

If you’re coming to speak to one of the Student Advice Centre team, just come straight into the back office rather than waiting to talk to the Info Assistant at the front desk.  This is because the Info Desk is a confidential area and often students will be there talking about personal problems, so the less crowded the waiting room is, the better.  Also, if you come straight into the back office, you don’t have to queue and students waiting can be seen quicker. Thanks.

House Hunting Fair
