  • Until the 9th of June, Leeds is holding a food festival. Many of the events are free to attend and there are often free samples available to taste!  A good place to start is a cooking demonstration in the Merrion Centre on Friday 7th June. Top Chef Brian Turner will be showing
    how to cook on the tightest of student budgets.

  • Need cheap cooking utensiles? Wanting to furnish your new home? Head to the Love Leeds Charity shop in the Union, opposite the opticians. It's going to be particularly busy in June with many students leaving Leeds and donating unwanted items- a good time to shop for a bargain!

Music

  • Every Sunday, HiFi club is home to Sunday Joint- a totally free live music event. Bands start from 11pm and play a range of Soul, Latin, Hip Hop, Funk & Salsa music. To find out who's playing and when, see this website


  • If live music is your thing, then take a look at the Duck and Drake. There are different events taking place most nights and many of these are FREE

     

Travel

 

  • On Sunday 7th July, Leeds will be car free and everyone is encouraged to get on a bike! Until September, free guided cycling tours will be offered all around the city. See here for more details

 

  • Book travel home in advance, and check out websites such as megabus (they do train travel too) and the train line for discounts
     

Entertainment

 

  • Every  saturday at the hyde park picture house cinema at midday (12pm) children can see a film for just £1.00 and adults £4.50

     
  • 05/05/2013 Free entertainment at the Hyde Park Picture House! The Picture House is celebrating its 100th birthday and has run a variety of events and documentaries.

     
  • Want to go to the cinema but can't use the 241 Orange Wednesday offer? Check out the vouchers available from VUE here

     
  • For those who think the theatre is only a thing for a treat when at home with the parents, there is now a 16-25 scheme at the West Yorkshire Playhouse where all students can get theatre tickets to professional productions for £5.

     
  • Head down to ‘first bowl’ at the Merrion Centre either Tuesday or Thursday and get games of bowling for just £1.50 each. Some of the drinks are also £1, very cheap but incredibly fun night out.

 

Shopping

 

  •  Not exclusive to Leeds, but when ordering your study books from amazon, there is an exclusive month trial of free delivery to help reduce the big dint books put into your bank balance at the start of each term.

     
  • Trinity Leeds Shopping Centre has a book swapping zone. Head to the Customer Service Lounge on Level 1 to browse the shelves or drop off a book of your own.

Arts and culture
 

 

  • Interested in Arts & Culture? Stage@Leeds has a variety of different shows- some tickets cost as little as £5! See what's on and book tickets via their website

     
  • Want to learn more about the history of Leeds? The Leeds City Museum is free and until the 30th June there's a natural history exhibition.
