Course Reps
What is a Course Rep?
Each year, working with LUU, the various departments of the University elect students to become Course Representatives. There are over 700 course reps across the University. Course Reps ensure that members of academic staff take into account the concerns and needs of students. They are there to ensure you receive the best possible education.
Course Representatives are supported by a School Rep Rep and by Leeds University Union. They support and represent their peers through attending their Student: Staff Forum meetings in their school and representing the views of other students.
If you have a problem to do with your course or department or idea to make a positive change we recommend you speak to your course representative about it. They should be able to advise you who to talk to and raise your issue at their Student: Staff Forum.
Support and training for Course Reps is available from Campaigns and Democracy Support Office. contact Laura Elson or Lisa Burton, Student Engagement Coordinators, on email: l.e.elson@leeds.ac.uk or L.Burton@leeds.ac.uk

Coursewatch
For all students taking part in the new Coursewatch initiative in the Schools of Geography and Earth & Environment.
What is Coursewatch?
Coursewatch is a brand new scheme that is being piloted in the Faculty of Environment (this includes the Schools of Geography and Earth & Environment). It is a joint venture between staff and students that aims to “improve learning together” and is based around the premise of a neighbourhood watch scheme.
It breaks down the “us” versus “them” approach to the student staff relationship and encourages partnership between the groups for the benefit of students and staff alike. This new scheme dramatically increases the number of Course Reps which means that students are better connected, the responsibilities of a course rep are shared and there is mutual support available to reps on the same course.
Each course rep is responsible for sharing information with their “group of 10” students (the ones you grouped together with in one of your introduction lectures). This number is fairly flexible so don’t worry if your “group” isn’t 10 exactly. All you have to do is use the various means of communication at your disposal to share what people in your group of 10 think of your course, modules etc, and relay any relevant information back to your group.
One of the most important things to remember about this new scheme is that you are each other’s support network. This system is designed to be low maintenance and informal so don’t feel you have lots of meetings etc to organise, these chat can take place anytime, anywhere.
