What is Give It A Go?

Give It A Go (GIAG) is a programme of taster sessions that run throughout term time.

GIAG is designed to provide something fun, interesting and different for you to do in your free time. There's something for everyone!

How to sign up to a Give It A Go session...

Anyone is welcome to take part in any GIAG session. Due to popularity and often limited spaces, booking is required. To book an event please visit the LUU Helpdesk in the foyer of the Union building.

Trip to Oxford: 4th February 8:15am - 7pm; Meet at Parkinson Steps; Visit the UK's oldest University town.

Edale with Wilderness Medicine: 4th February 9:30am - 4pm; Edale; A day of hiking and first aid scenarios (nothing too difficult) in the peak district.

Day Trip to York (IntEra Soc): 4th February 9:45am - 8pm; Meet at Parkinson steps; Come with us and see the past re-enacted by a hoard of Vikings!

An Introduction to Cycling (on or off road): 4th February 11am - 3pm; Meet in car park behind Wokon Noodle Bar, Headingley; Come and experience one of the best ways to socialise and keep fit at the same time.

Amateur Boxing: 4th February 4pm - 5pm; Tiger’s Gym, Meanwood; Boxing GIAG which caters to all skill levels, from those wanting purely to get fit to those with previous experience.

Taiwan Festival: 6th February 2pm - 5pm; Riley Smith Hall; Get a taste of Taiwanese food, enjoy marvellous Taiwanese culture and have fun with exciting games.

Give Lacrosse a Go (womens): 6th February 4pm - 5pm; The Edge, Sports Hall 1B,; This session welcomes all standards and aims to provide a fun and active way to try something new and meet new friends.

Folk Tune and Accompaniment Workshop: 6th February 5pm - 7:30pm; Meeting Room 6 - moving to the Packhorse Pub later; Get the taste for our Folk soc sessions by learning traditional folk tunes and dances from an experienced musician.

MedAid Africa: 6th February 5:30pm - 6:30pm; LUU, Meeting Room 4; Come along to find out how you can get involved in helping us fundraise, with opportunities available to visit our clinics.

Laser Quest: 6th February 6pm - 11:30pm; Huddersfield Arena; Meet at Old Bar

Wish You Were Here: 7th February 11am - 4pm; LUU, The Common Room; Explore other cultures through designing a postcard to be exhibited around university throughout International Cultural Festival week!

Salsa with SLAPsoc: 7th February 5pm - 6pm; LUU, The Lounge; Get a taste of Spanish culture and meet loads of new people in a friendly environment.

Wing Chun Kung-Fu: 7th February 5pm - 7pm; LUU, Meeting Room 2; Come try Wing Chun Kung-Fu, a Chinese martial art perfect for men and women.

Circus Skills Workshop and Demonstrations: 7th February 7pm - 9pm; LUU, Refectory; Come to the circus skills workshop, meet new people, watch short performances and learn some amazing tricks!

Make Your Own God: 7th February 7pm - 9pm; LUU, Meeting Room 4; Blue Peter style arts and crafts session where you can make your own deity out of everyday household objects!

Rowing Taster Day: 8th February 11:45am - 3:45pm; Roundhay Park; Pickup from Parkinson Steps at 11.45am, 12.45pm, 1.45pm, 2.45pm or 3.45pm £4 per session

Spring GIAG: 8th February 11:45am - 9th February midnight; Roundhay Park (transport provided); Learn how to row with LUUBC - even if you've been in a boat before! Qualified coaches, transport and a picnic too.

Give Polo a Go: 8th February noon - 4pm; White Rose Polo Club, North Cave, East Riding of Yorkshire; Come and try the thrilling game of polo!

Learn Photoshop and Illustrator with Design Soc: 8th February 1:30pm - 3:30pm; Link Building CAD 1.39; Learn Photoshop and Illustrator with the Design Society!

Postgrads Ice Breaker: 8th February 5pm - 7pm; LUU Lounge; Meet fellow Postgrad students from around the world.

Adowa: The Ghanaian Royal Dance: 9th February 2pm - 6pm; LUU room 3; Come and try your hands at a few steps and learn about the origin of the dance.

Leeds university Ultimate Frisbee: 9th February 5pm - 6pm; Edge Sports Hall 1B; Ultimate Frisbee is as competitive or intensive as you want it to be. It’s great fun, truly addictive and the socials are epic.

Unity in Diversity Multicultural and Faith session: 9th February 5pm - 7pm; Baines Wing 2.37; Come along, make friends and learn about different cultures and faith groups!

Get out into the Garden with Bardon Grange: 15th February 3:30pm - 6pm; Meet at LUU Helpdesk; If you want some space, skills or support to have a go at growing organic food, then come along!

An Introduction to Debating: 15th February 6pm - 8pm; Baines Wing 2.37; At this session we will be introducing the basics of how to debate and engage with these big issues.

Laugh in the Face of Climate Change: 15th February 7:30pm - midnight; LUU Stylus; Laugh in the Face of Climate Change returns again for its 3rd year as the annual comedy fundraising night.

Stage Musical Society: 16th February 5pm - 8pm; LUU Mine; SMS welcomes you to a day of performing, socialising and opportunity!

Middle Eastern Society Film Night: 16th February 6pm - 8:30pm; LUU Common Room; Come and watch Amreeka, a hilarious film about a Palestinian family settling into life in the US, which will be followed by a culinary tour of the Middle East!

Make and Design your own Pinata: 17th February 5pm - 8:30pm; Room 2, Level 2 in the union building; This is your opportunity to make and design your own piñata.

Trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon: 18th February 8:15am - 8pm; Meet at Parkinson steps; Take a trip to the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

Cross Country: 18th February 8:30am - 9:30am; Hyde Park; Start your build up to London 2012 with our GIAG session.

People and Planet: 18th February 11am - 6pm; Saltaire (Yorkshire); People and Planet society are going to be going on a ramble in Saltaire this spring.

TouchTennis: 18th February 1pm - 4pm; Gryphon Centre Sports Hall; TouchTennis

Gymnastics: 19th February 7pm - 9pm; Leeds Met Gymnastics Centre, Beckett Park; Guys and girls come and have a go, whether your an experienced flipper or have never done a forward roll before, we welcome everyone.

Conservation Task in Leeds: 20th February 10am - 3pm; Woodhouse Ridge; Get involved with conservation on one of our regular tasks as we work with local community group WRAG and Leeds City Council on our own patch of urban woodland, Woodhouse Ridge!

Help with organising a GIAG session.

If you need help regarding a Give It A Go session you want to run, the Development Coordinators, who work in Student Activities Office (Level 1 of the Union building), provide support, advice and help with all student activities.
