Fairtrade

Our commitment to Fairtrade

We are committed to prioritising fair-trade products and principles through our Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy, in line with the values of our members.

Not only do we stock and promote a range of Fairtrade goods through our shops and bars, but we are also active participants in Fairtrade fortnight.

About Fairtrade

“Fairtrade is a strategy for poverty alleviation and sustainable development.

Its purpose is to create opportunities for producers and workers who have been economically disadvantaged or marginalized by the conventional trading system.

If fair access to markets under better trade conditions would help them to overcome barriers to development, they can join Fairtrade.”

Fairtrade is a tool for development that ensures disadvantaged farmers and workers in developing countries get a better deal through the use of the international Fairtrade Mark.

Fairtrade labelling was founded in the late 1980s in the Netherlands. Today, sales of worldwide products exceeded £712M in the UK alone last year, benefiting over 7 million people in 58 developing countries.
