Hi.
I’m a second year law-masters student. As an undergrad I was Treasurer of my Students’ Union. I was personally responsible for a budget of £45k, represented students in regular meetings on issues ranging from events to hardship, and ran a rent campaign involving hundreds of students that secured the lowest annual increase anyone could remember.
Since coming to Leeds, I’ve been heavily involved in campaigning on environmental and human rights issues.
- I’ve organised and facilitated discussions, ranging from Copenhagen to fairtrade;
- I was active in the bottled water campaign;
- I helped secure a commitment that the Union reduce carbon emissions.
As CIA I will ensure that through Green week, Social Forum and every single day our Union stays active and engages its members on whatever students decide is important.
DEMOCRACY AT THE UNION IS SET TO CHANGE. 85% of students do not want the Executives to make big policy decisions – so I won’t. YOU WILL! The ‘Democracy Review’ proposes structural changes to engage students more in decision-making, on issues from job cuts to societies’ funding. I want to make it work, so I need your help. LET'S GET ON IT!
