Hello, I’m Bernie Snell. I study Middle Eastern Studies, but so far at university I have spent most of my time campaigning on welfare issues, from safety on the streets to asylum and environmental issues.

Have you ever had a problem and felt that the information was inaccessible or inadequate? Did you want to talk to a student rather than a bureaucrat about your problems? I want to provide a direct link between you and the university’s support network. If there is something that you want to see improved that doesn’t appear on this manifesto, get in touch, as I want to represent YOU!

If elected as Welfare Officer I intend to:

-         Be Approachable and Representative.
As these are the two most important aspects of the job!

-         Provide regular confidential drop-in services.
A space where you can discuss any problems that you feel are not adequately provided for by this Union.

-         Improve contact with JCRs.
To address accommodation issues from changing halls, to holding sessions where people can meet fellow house-hunters.

-         Publicise our existing services.

-         Publicise and provide help with NHS HC1 forms.
These forms allow many students to get free prescriptions, sight tests and a whole range of other benefits.

-         Work with other officers, assemblies, societies and other unions on joint campaigns that help improve student’s welfare.
Including sexual health, depression, exam stress, financial issues, course problems, family matters, employment, body image and anything that affects you!
