In the Union

The Union building houses an array of exciting venues just waiting to be taken advantage of. There are seven shops within the Union, including a beauticians, opticians and hair dressers. So if you need to buy some noodles, a newspaper or even a card for that special someone, we’ve got it covered. Here are a couple of venues we thought you may be interested in.

Bars

Hidden Cafe

Relax in the Hidden Café’s vintage surroundings, with delicious treats and tasty bites sure to tickle the taste buds of any discerning delegate. And if you’re lucky enough to be on a day delegate package then you have them to thank for your delicious light lunch.

The Terrace Bar

Situated in the heart of the Union building, The Terrace is open during the day serving fair-trade coffee, chilled soft drinks, wines, spirits and beers, and great food. Taking its name from the huge outdoor terrace on offer, it’s a great place to pass a few hours during the day – especially when the sun is shining.

The Old Bar

The original bar in the Union opened in 1939 and offers an array cold drinks, a great affordable food menu and the only venue in LUU to offer Real Ale, which are locally sourced from microbreweries across Yorkshire. The Old Bar has two extra large projection screens and seven plasma screens spread throughout the venue where you can watch the latest sporting fixtures in style. A great pub to visit after your meeting or conference.

Shops

Essentials

Essentials is LUU's convenience store, located on the shops level of the Union building, and sells everything you need to get you through the week - at student friendly prices. Essentials sells a wide range of products including sandwiches, snacks, soft drinks, newspapers, stationery and a range of fair trade, vegetarian, Halal and South East Asian products.

Cats

Cats is LUU's award-winning card and gift shop, selling a great selection of gifts including: jewellery, candles, photo frames, stationery, kitchen ware, games, accessories and make-up, as well as a wide range of greeting cards and gift wrap.

Venues

There are three night clubs located in the Union, including Stylus, Pulse and Mine.

Stylus

Stylus has a capacity of over 1,000 and has been hosting both live acts and club nights since 2001. Artists as diverse as Public Enemy, The Kooks, The Wailers and S Club have graced the stage in recent years, and the venue is also home to a range of club nights including Brighton Beach.

Pulse

Pulse is an intimate 350 capacity venue often used as a chill out or second room when an event is taking place in Stylus. It also works well as a standalone venue, and is suitable for events such as private parties, speed dating, comedy, quiz nights or small club nights.

Mine

An award-winning venue within LUU, and the newest, it has a capacity of 450. Mine is an eclectic venue offering different events every night of the week. The huge range of night’s means there is something for everyone from R&B to Drum & Bass via Salsa nights and live gigs.
