RAG - Bike to Berlin

Bike to Berlin premiered in 2010 with 37 cyclists tackling the 550 mile route over 8 days to reach Berlin by pedal power alone. Each year the event raises money for a different charity, and in 2011, over £11,000 was donated to local charity One in a Million.

The event enables you to test yourself to your limits and cycle all the way from Leeds to Berlin. The route takes you to Hull where you take an overnight ferry to arrive in Rotterdam to start the next two days cycling across the Netherlands before crossing the border into Germany. Once in Germany, you will spend the next five days cycling East towards Berlin to arrive at the Brandenburg Gate.

Over the year, group socials and training rides will prepare you for the challenge and providing you with the knowledge of riding a bike, and the determination you will be able to achieve this challenge. Each day is between 60 and 70 miles, and group morale will help push you up the hardest of hills. To try and make the challenge as comfortable as possible, a van team will accompany the group carrying all the luggage each day, food and tents.

"Having taken part in the Tour to France, the three of us knew it couldn’t end there, and the following year ‘Bike to Berlin’ was born! Organising a brand new event from scratch was hard work yet 100% worthwhile. Pushing ourselves and each other every mile, the success of the event isn’t just the £14000 we raised, it’s the exhaustion, pride and personal challenges each and every one of us overcame as a team. Would I do it again....absolutely!"
Rachel Berman, Bike to Berlin leader 2010
