About Us

Welcome

Welcome to Women's Cricket. We welcome all abilities so if the terms "mid-off" and "silly-point" mean nothing to you then not to worry. We play Indoor Cricket during the winter and as soon as the spring comes its our outdoor season. A lot of our members are also members of other teams as our fixtures don't clash with other teams.

Last Season (2010/2011)

Last season was a great success for the club. We won an Indoor Cricket tournament in Sheffield, beating Manchester University in the final. In the outdoor season we came top of the league beating Manchester University, Sheffield University and Sheffield Hallam university. In the knockout tournament we beat Cambridge University before narrowly missing out on promotion into the premiership by losing to Birmingham University.

This season (2011/2012)

The start of the indoor season brought mixed results. We had a fantastic, although slightly nail-biting, victory over arch rivals Leeds Metropolitan University winning by 2 runs on the last ball. It was a great performance by all the girls, especially new recruit Beth MacGregor who lead the way with the bat scoring the majority of our runs. The next weekend saw the annual indoor tournament. Scheduled so early in the year it was difficult to field a side who were used to playing together and it showed in our first match against Durham where we suffered a heavy defeat against an obviously well-practiced side. We redeemed ourselves with a victory over St Andrews but unfortunately this was not enough to progress to the finals at Lords.

Training

We train at the University's sports center (Sportshall 1) every Friday 19:00-21:00.  We also have indoor nets at Headingley Stadium with times and dates  TBC.

Socials

Attending any of the regular socials is one of the best ways of getting to know the team. We have a variety of social events including holding fundraising evenings with other sports teams or meeting up with the boys' cricket club. Once a year we don our posh dresses and head out to the colours ball in support of our members who receive awards, before heading out with the rest of the sports teams in celebration.
