Swimming & Water Polo

About us

As part of the Leeds Gryphons programme, Leeds University Swimming and Water polo club (LUUSWP) is one of the largest and most competitive clubs at the University.

Both sports compete in the national BUCS leagues which contain teams from Stirling down to Plymouth. Our womens water polo team are the reigning BUCS national champions! Our mens team are inside the BUCS top 10 and our swimming team placed 12th nationally at BUCS last year.

We train at the EDGE leisure centre on the University campus; a brand-new 25m pool and gym which opened in 2010. Please see their website for information about their facilities:  http://sport.leeds.ac.uk/default.asp?section=2&sectionTitle=Home

There are 8 swimming training sessions, 3 water polo sessions and 2 strength and conditioning gym sessions available per week, all of which take place at the EDGE.

The club is friendly, competitive and very active socially with weekly socials after Wednesday matches, a black tie Christmas meal and a sports tour to Spain in the Easter holidays. We offer  memberships for swimmers and water polo players aiming to participate  in 2/3 sessions a week to keep fit and compete, to memberships aimed  at athletes willing to take part in the highly competitive Swimming  and Water Polo national BUCS competitions. Also on offer to you is the  Club’s huge social scene, from weekly socials to a couple of more  sophisticated black tie dinners. The Club is always delighted to  welcome new members and is dedicated to providing a friendly and  social atmosphere within and amongst both the swimming and water polo  sides of the club. A great way to compete, a chance at BUCS success  and a fantastic way to meet new friends - for life!!!
