About Us

Welcome

Welcome to the University of Leeds. Among the most popular sports in the North of England is Rugby League, the birthplace of which was in Yorkshire itself.

We are the University of Leeds Rugby League team. Our Griffin status from the University confirms us as one of the elite clubs at Leeds. Also we are currently one of the most successful clubs at the University in terms of individual player development producing 9 Yorkshire players and 4 National players last season, the most of all the teams in the University.

We set ourselves apart as a club because of our combination of good fun at training and flexibility to accommodate the demands of everyone’s degree programme along with high quality training delivered by our world class coaching staff. This ensures that all players enjoy being members without ever feeling pressure to choose between their sport or their study, while also developing as individual players and as members of the team.

The Coming Season

Freshers fair is on 20th and 21st of September in the sports hall where everyone will get a chance to meet the committee and some current members to ask any questions and to leave your details with us.

Our first game is a friendly against Leeds Trinity on Wednesday 28th September which will be split into four quarters to give all the new players a chance to play and to be watched by our 1st team coach.

Our local derby match will be on Wednesday 5th October agains Leeds Met in the famour Varsity competition.

Our regular season will begin on Wednesday 19th October of which we are in the Premier North League. The 2nd team and potentially 3rd team fixtures are yet to be confirmed.

Our cup run begins on the 15th February.

Training

We have a field session on the Weetwood 3G playing field every Monday from 7.45p.m. until 10pm. We play our matches on Wednesdays most games kick off at 2pm with home games up at weetwood. We also have Monday and Friday gym sessions which run at 2-3 p.m. on a monday and 3-4 p.m. on a Friday in the Edge Gym on campus.

Socials

We have socials every wednesday after games, which usually involve fancy dress of some sort and lots of subsequent storys to take back to training and laugh about.
