About Us

WELCOME TO LUUNC - THE HOME OF LEEDS UNIVERSITY NETBALL

The Netball Club at Leeds Uni is proud to be one of the most popular, and successful sports clubs. Our teams range from the Northern Prem, to lower divisions within BUCS and actively participate in the West Yorkshire County Netball League. Below will show you a bit more about our club.

Expansion

After expanding from previsouly consisting of 4 teams to 5 teams in 2009, all of whom compete in the BUCS league, due to popularity and an increase in members the club continued to have another successful season.  Last Season the 1sts remained in the Northen Premier Division within the BUCS league, under the supervision of the newly appointed coach and ex- England player Alex Kirk.

Due to the success of the Club, the University has decided to invest more time and money into the Club for the forthcoming season, with the hope to continue improving and succeed even further. In order to help achieve this, we are now in our third season in the WYCNA Saturday league, where we were promoted last year into the first division. We are aiming for promotion again this year and hope to be a premier league playing club in the future. This is an exciting new venture which will only help improve the Club and assist us in getting to the next level.

Socials

We pride ourselves on training hard to achieve and strive to be the best we can be, we also enjoy ourselves ALOT along the way and Netball has a great social side. There are socials every Wednesday night organised by the Social Secretaries, involving various fancy dress and games. These are not compulsory, but they are a great way to meet people, make new friends, and relax after playing.

Development

In addition to the 5 BUCS teams, we also have a Development squad, who have had their own committee for the last 4 years, another example of the vast development of the Club. The Development squads play in the Intra-Mural league run by the Sport and Physical Activity Division of the University. The Development squads also act as a feeder for the BUCS squads if substantial improvement is made. Development can provide fun and recreation for those seeking less serious Netball and all abilities are welcome.

In previous years, the BUCS squads and Development squads have been run almost as two separate entities. However, to continue in our aim to improve the Club further, we have appointed two Development Co-ordinators this season, in an attempt to unite the squads and resultantly strengthen the Club.

If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch as we are always keen to welcome new members.

Pre Season Matches

Match report Leeds vs Manchester 16th September
Team One: WON 21-15
Team one started out strong, the different combinations of attack and defence worked well and the two weeks of pre-season training proved to be worthwhile, as Leeds fitness levels were considerably better than our opposition. At the end of the first quarter Leeds had gained a 7 point lead. The team showed a sense of unity with everyone backing each other up even though this was the first time some had played together; however you could tell players were nervous at the start of the match.

Team Two: LOST 13 -14
Team Two began the match hard out, with defence turning over the ball repetitively. The whole team proceeded to defend ‘man-to-man’ which was very effective and put a lot of pressure on the other team when attacking. Unfortunately the end score didn’t effective and Tem two lost by one goal.

Match Report Leeds vs Hi-Lites 22nd September
Leeds WON 23 – 22

After a shaky start and a few unforced errors the team began to work well. Attack were driving forward for the ball and controlled the pace of the game however the teams loopy passes were happily intercepted by their opposition. Defence worked very well and as the game went on communication between them improved.
