Mens Hockey

About Us

The club has been part of the Universities performance sports programme since 2007 and since then has progressed rapidly becoming one of the best clubs in the University. With around 110 members a year and six teams we are the biggest university sports society in the country!

All six teams are fielded twice a week, once on Wednesday in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition, and once on Saturday in each teams respective league. Our 1st and 2nd XI play in the North Leagues, with our 1st XI just one below National League level. But our club is not just about our high performance sides, we take an interest in hockey at all levels. Our success is fielded all the way through from top to bottom, set by the example that our 5th XI has been promoted four times in four years!

Club In Support at Varsity

We also encourage getting involved off the pitch just as much as on the pitch. Whether its an organised social, going for a drink with a couple of teammates or just turning up to watch another of the teams play.  We have the ethos of a club rather than a collection of teams under the same banner and so it is not unusual to have members turn up and watch the other teams play as everyone is interested in club success, particularly at the big events such as Varsity or Christie Cup. These two major events have been dominated by LUUMHC in recent years compared to our rivals.

We always welcome new members of any ability, so even if you have never lifted a stick before please come along to a session. If you are enthusiastic about the club we are more than willing to welcome you regardless of playing capability.

Training:

1st XI/2nd XI – Monday 7pm – 10pm
3rd XI/4th XI – Monday 6.30pm – 9pm
5th XI/6th XI – Monday 5pm – 7pm
Development Squad – Monday 5pm – 7pm

All training sessions are run by fully qualified hockey coaches.

In addition to Hockey, the club also has a busy social calendar. The club organizes a Christmas Meal, an end of year Hockey Ball, as well as regular Wednesday night social events.

The club also partakes in regular fundraising activity, recently raising money for the Hospice in the Weald, Wheatfields Hospice, Brain Tumour UK and Prostate Cancer UK.
