Sports Groups

Our teams BUCS Focus University for football.  The University of Leeds Men's Football Club is a BUCS Premier League Club. The combination of our top-class facilities and comprehensive coaching infrastructure makes the University one of the top footballing institutions in the country.

Competition;

The Men's Football Club operates 5 teams that participate in BUCS. The first team competes in the BUCS Premier League.  With the other four teams competing throughout the remaining tiers of the BUCS structure. 
 

Coaching;

Head Coach, Ian Burchnall, runs his own football school in Norway and has been the Team Manager for the BUCS Northern Universities squad. 

Our Director of Football is ex-England international and prolific Premier League goalscorer Brian Deane. As well as using his vast experiences to guide the club towards its long term goals, he also aids Ian in coaching the first team.

Other full time coaches include 2nd team coach Phil Riley who is held in high regard amongst local footballing circles and ex-professional footballer Liam Sutcliffe who coaches the 3rd team.

Facilities;

The Men's Football Club is based at our flagship outdoor facilities at Weetwood. Training takes place on our floodlit 3G rubber crumb pitch, with matches being played on the excellent grass pitch, adjacent to the 3G.

Recruitment;

 
Trials take place over the freshers period. There will also be a re-trial in December for those that were unsuccessful at first attempt.  If unsucessful or you do not want to play competitive football a training session is run on Mondays from 4pm-5pm where anyone who is a social member can play football.  The training session on Mondays is a great way of getting noticed and promoted into our teams.

Matches;

Wednesday 2.00pm KO Weetwood and Bodington Saturday 2.00pm KO Weetwood and Bodington

Training;

1st and 2nd team: Mondays and Fridays 5-7 at Weetwood

3rd, 4th and 5th team: Tuesdays 4-6 and Thursdays 5-6.30

Social Members: Monday 4-5
