About Us

Welcome to the The University of Leeds Badminton Club. We are very social club, welcoming players from all standards and are more then happy to accommodate those completely new to the game.

New Members

Welcome to Leeds! Freshers coming to the University of Leeds 2010, staying in student accommodation, will have the EDGE club membership included in their accommodation fees, so access to the sports halls for club sessions and training will be free.

There is an annual club membership of £25, as with most sports societies. This fee goes back into the club to provide shuttles, training and for tournament costs.

Hope to see you all in September!

Training

Club sessions are held on a Sunday 11.30am to 2.30pm in Sports Hall 2 and Wednesday 12.00 noon to 2.00pm in Sports Hall 1.

The sessions are open to those who enjoy the social side of badminton, and also those who are looking for competitive games to improve.

We have teams that play in the British Universities Colleges Sport (BUCS) and also local league teams, for mens, womens and mixed, with 8 teams in total. Trials for these teams will take place just after freshers week, but players can also become a team member through coming to club sessions regularly.

Socials

The social part of the club is obviously a big part of the society, with organised socials throughout the year. This year this included: Bowling, Lazer Quest, Christmas Meal, German Christmas Market, House Parties and Club Nights (Gatecrasher and Faversham etc).

We have also managed to obtain some added perks, such as discounts for clubs in Leeds (Bourbon, Gatecrasher, Voodoo, and maybe more).

Also, 'Cafe in The Campus' have offered members of the Badminton Club an exclusive deal whereby with a membership card we get 20% off food, with 30% going back into the club. Their website is: http://www.cafeinthecampus.co.uk/index.html?_ret_=return

Leeds Gryphons - Badminton

LUU Badminton have this year been granted Gryphon status. The programme generally enables access to services that will help progression of our BUCS teams (ultimately leading to more BUCS points for the university, but will hopefully mean more court time and support for the whole club.
