United Nations Association
About Us

Are you interested in diplomacy, human rights and world peace? Do you want to make a difference? Do you want to travel the world representing different countries? Then the UNA is for you!
We are the United Nations Association- the Youth wing of the United Nations Association. We meet weekly to debate and discuss current affairs in a similar format to the UN. Members select a country to represent and do their best to convey their selected country’s point of view. Discussion topics are emailed the Monday before and we aim to end each session with a resolution. In our sessions we sometimes simulate committees such as the Security Council and Human Rights Commission, and attempt to tackle issues such as conflict resolution and breeches of the Human Rights Convention. We also hold emergency sessions when real-world crises occur- these sessions are often lively and can get heated!
We meet every Thursday at 6pm in the Miall Lecture Theatre 2.34 in the Baines Wing (go up the stairs on the cafe side)
Our members represent the University of Leeds at various Model UN conferences across the world. This year, UNA Leeds plans to attend:
LIMUN - London International Model United Nations
SCOTSMUN - Edinburgh International Model United Nations
PIMUN - Paris International Model United Nations
EUROMUN - Europe international Model United Nations
NOTTSMUN - Nottingham Model United Nations
WARMUN - Warwick Model United Nations
UCLMUN - University College London Model United Nations
This February we will host for the first time our own Model United Nations conference. We plan on inviting key speakers from the UNA network to join our conference. We welcome new and old members who wish to take part in planning and organizing this conference.
As well as holding Model UN debates and attending conferences we have an education programme where members go out to schools and teach them about what the UN is about. We also give our support to real-world crises, and last year we held several fundraisers for natural disasters- such as the outbreak of cholera in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake.
We have regular socials; usually at the terrace, curry nights and an otley run.
So come for a lively debate, learn more about the UN and its procedures, attend both national and international conferences, meet like-minded people and have your voice heard…
