Liberal Democrats

Meet the Committee

Name: Louis Gill

Position: President

Studying: BA Italian and Russian

What my position involves:

My role requires to me chair society meetings, make decisions on the direction of the society and act as ambassador in working with other societies and union bodies.

Why I"m a member of the Liberal Democrats:

I support the Liberal Democrats because they"re a party that values the rights of individuals and they are proving to be an effective presence in government, making Britain a fairer place.

Non-Political Interests:

European languages, History

Name: Tom Mead

Position: Secretary

Studying: MA Philosophy of Religion

What my position involves:

I am Louis" right-hand man (a de facto vice-president if you will) who handles all the society"s important admin stuff. I take minutes at meetings, keep track of our membership details, email our members details of upcoming events and basically make sure that everything is organised and in order; without me, the society would collapse!

Why I"m a member of the Liberal Democrats:

I"m a firm believer in civil liberties, free speech and human rights. I don"t think anyone should be restricted by their socio-economic background, ethnicity, sexuality, religion, gender or nationality; every individual deserves access to opportunities that will enable them to live as happy and fulfilling a life as possible. The Liberal Democrats is, in my opinion, the only UK political party that fully upholds these values and so I am proud to be amongst their members.

Non-Political Interests:

Rock and heavy metal music, DJing (club and radio), Fantasy literature

Name: Will Noble

Position: Treasurer

Studying: BSc Mathematics

What my position involves:

I make sure that the society's finances are ran as well as they can be.

Why I"m a member of the Liberal Democrats:

I wanted a party who would protect and expand freedoms for everyone, not just the few. The Liberal Democrats, for me, are the only party that truly cares about freedom for everyone.

Non-Political Interests:

Going to indie and rock gigs, Watching sci-fi TV shows, Playing shooter PS3 games

Name: Troy Hill

Position: Party Liaison Officer

Studying: BA Politics

What my position involves:

I am the primary point of contact between the society and the local party. I organize with the local party campaign opportunities for our society and arrange transport for our members. Other than that I maintain and build strong relations with the local party and get them involved with some of our student campaigns and attend their meetings to give young people a voice. Our campaigns always have a social element throughout, so usually so we go for a casual social after each campaign outing with local party members, and thus it is also a useful networking opportunity.

Why I"m a member of the Liberal Democrats:

I am most definitely a Liberal and, since the Lib Dems are the most Liberal party in the UK, it was a natural place I could call home. I grew aware of the Liberal Democrats first under Charles Kennedy and the policies he put forward were intriguing because they were different and unique, they near perfectly balanced social responsibility and economic prosperity. Since then I have been listening to Nick Clegg and got involved in the 2010 general election to re-elect Greg Mullholland, our local Lib Dem MP. I was inspired by Clegg's Liberal principles and his mission in the form of a vision, which was delivered with such maturity and is slowly, through his political management of a tedious coalition, beginning to take shape. For me, whether you agree with the policy all the time is neither here nor there; it is fundamentally about being "liberal" and part of a political community that shares your beliefs and aspirations.

Non-Political Interests:

Badminton, NFL, Outdoors
