Dance Groups

Dance Exposé is a student run dance society that was formed in 2002, and since then, the society has grown to become a well-known part of Leeds University Union. Dance Exposé is open to girls and guys, from any year, and boasts an extensive range of talent and different dance styles. We are an exciting, fun and hardworking society, comprising of members from a range of courses, who share the same passion: dance.

Our dancers vary in their levels of experience, some having had no previous experience but having a natural passion and flare for dance, and others who have a high level of training. With the eclectic mix of dancers it means there are endless opportunities to try out and perform various styles, from Lyrical to Hip-Hop, from Irish to Street, including Modern, Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Salsa, Bollywood, Latin, Break Dancing, Contemporary and many more. The fantastic variety of dance types makes our show truly entertaining and certainly unmissable. 

What is unique about our society is that it is run entirely by members. Every member has the opportunity to choreograph and try new styles, and we all contribute to the running of the show, organisation, promotion, setting/lighting and costumes. 
We rehearse regularly in the Union, producing an annual weeklong show in the Riley Smith Hall. Our show this year had a ‘London Underground’ theme, we  used places like Brick lane, O2 Arena, Oxford Street, Hyde park, London Dungeons and many more destinations in London as inspiration for all of the dances. This proved hugely successful amongst students at the university as well as an outside audience alike. The society even took a trip to London in preparation for the show, which was a wonderfully fun experience! The show was incredibly popular, and the society members worked extremely hard to put on a fantastic performance at a very high standard. In addition to this, the society holds an annual dance fundraiser, and this year has also taken part in and performed at the RAG Fashion Show, the Strut Fashion Show, and a professional Michael Jackson tribute performance.

 

Auditions will be held in early October; make sure you catch us at the Fresher’s Fair where we will be holding a stall for your chance to sign up and ask us any questions, also watch out for people in audition t-shirts in the freshers week. This truly is a fantastic opportunity; if you have a passion for dance, regardless of your level, previous training or experience, you should definitely come along and give it a go! It is a fantastic chance to do what you love, have fun and meet a lot of new friends. We are a fun-loving society, so if you share the same passion for dance as the rest of our society, whether you are a beginner or advanced, make sure you come along to the auditions.
