Open Theatre
About Us

Welcome to the new performance society in Leeds University, here we want everyone to get involved regardless of experience.
We aim to produce shows just "that little bit different", shows that explore all boundaries of theatre as well as your traditional shows.

This is the society, where if you want something to happen, we will make it happen.
Whether it be flashmobs, physical theatre, show choirs, new-writing, musicals, devising, circus tributes, anything you want... we want to be the platform for you to explore, not even in just acting, but directing, choreographing, producing, managing, lighting, anything!

CHARITY BASED WORK: Open Theatre collaborates with charities in most of their projects, at the moment we host a club night called 'In Cahoots', which is a fun-filled night of variety acts, live music, djs, cheap drinks, the lot! The night is in collaboration with READ (Books for Tanzania)

ACTION 24TH FEBRUARY: Open Theatre are collaborating with theatre societies across the University of Leeds and the student volunteering society 'Action' to provide a group of children across Leeds a taste of what it is like to be involved with theatre at University. We will be running 2 age appropriate workshops in the morning and 2 in the afternoon using different drama based skills. The students will also be given campus tours and an insight into what the University of Leeds has to offer them.
At the LUU Volunteering Awards ACTION won the award for BEST COLLABORATION for this event, which used Open Theatre, LUU Theatre Group and Leeds local schools. It was a great success and everyone involved had a great day.
WORKSHOPS: As well as hosting nights out and putting on shows, we also offer workshops in a variety of performance genres, this is such a great opportunity for anyone wanting to get stuck in, learn some new skills and gain some professional experience. Currently, we have the Artistic Director of 'Red Ladder' Theatre Company, Rod Dixon, running his 'RED GRIT' programme for members of Open Theatre.
Coming up, we have professionals from 'Pineapple Dance Studios', 'Coronation Street' and the West-End's 'Wicked' all coming in to host a workshop exclusively for Open Theatre.
