Gliding

About Us

Currently we don't have a Gliding Committee. Check back on the webpage during Semester 1 to see when the Club is running again.

Gliders are unpowered (Engineless) aeroplanes, sometimes referred to as sailplanes. They use rising air to maintain height and, in the hands of experienced pilots, are able to stay in the air for long periods of time and cover great distances.

Our society fly at nearby Pocklington Airfield with Wolds Gliding Club, which has a large fleet of gliders and offers training following the British Gliding Association syllabus.

Most of our members were introduced to gliding through us and many of them have progressed beyond the solo stage of training, which is when the sport really becomes incredible! If you come gliding with us regularly, it is likely that you will fly one of the gliders SOLO within a year- such a sense of achievement can rarely be experienced in any other type of hobby or sport.

Gliding is the cheapest way to learn to fly an aircraft, one of the best hobbies imaginable and a great way to see the Yorkshire countryside

"So what are you waiting for? Come and fly with us!"
