The Duke of Edinburgh (D of E) Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities, designed to support the personal and social development of young people aged 14-25.
Here at LUU, we offer to help you earn the highest award in the D of E scheme, which is gold. To complete this you complete five sections; volunteering, physical activity, skill, residential and the expedition.
One of our main aim as a society is to provide appropriate training and guidance to complete the expedition section of the Award. This involves:
- weekly meetings to learn essential survival skills & plan hiking routes
- team building walks
- training weekends
- a 'mock' practice expedtion
- a final hiking/camping expedition.
Duke of Edinburgh is a great way to meet new people too and to help the local community, whilst having fun and developing your own skills.
We have an informal, relaxed ethos and this is reflected in our socials, which provide the opportunity to get to know other members of the society in a non-pressured, supportive environment.
Our meetings
We meet every Thursday during term-time Room 4 in the ARC (upstairs in the Union). 6.00-7.00pm. We ask for regular commitment.
