About Us

Amateur Boxing Society

The Amateur Boxing Society caters to all skill levels, from those wanting purely to get fit to those with previous experience. Our sessions are attended by both males and an increasing amount of females in pursuit of a good workout. This, without a doubt, boxing provides – and it is certainly more effective and more exciting than any gym session. The sessions consist of whole body fitness exercises, technical drills and sparring. The exercises we conduct are great fat burners and help tone the body allowing our members to become fighting fit.

Sparring is optional and contact is always light. Beginners can begin with body sparring and those more experienced can do head and body. Sparring is always supervised by our professional instructors who have many years of experience.

The Amateur Boxing Society regularly competes in the BUCS which are held twice a year and have won medals consistently. The club also takes part in bi-annual Varsity fights against Leeds Metropolitan University which, as a result of the close rivalry between the two universities, is an exciting social, as well as sporting occasion. For those who are less experienced the club regularly holds interspar competitions which gives those who enter a friendly introduction to a real boxing match.

Club activities are not restricted to the boxing gym. Socials are arranged regularly, featuring Varsity fights, club nights, pub crawls, fancy dress and more.

So if joining appeals to you, then get in touch. Club members are recognisable around campus by their distinctive new grey and blue kit and will be happy to help. If you prefer you can visit the Facebook Group, or feel free to email or phone the committee with any questions you have.
