Union Music Library
The Union Music Library is one of the Union's longest-running societies. For a Freshers' fair special discount of just £5 (after the 28th, it's a still-reasonable £10), you'll have access to over 3000 CDs and 5000 vinyl across dozens of genres for the entire year. When you join we need an undated cheque for £25 from you as insurance. We do not cash this without letting you know first. You can not borrow without handing this in.
The catalogue gets updated about every fortnight with new releases, cult favourites and classics, and we're always interested in peoples'
requests; there's also a shelf for albums recommended by the volunteers, and a recommended gigs board too.
Last year, we bought more new albums than any previous year, thanks to an extensive promotional campaign and an impressive number of new members. This year, we aim to top that, while also making an effort to improve on certain genre sections of the library itself. Since the Music Library runs pretty much like a record shop, socials tend to be unofficially organised between members, mostly based around gigs.
However, last year, we did start to organise more social events outside of the live music circuit, and the first social of the year will be taking place at a clubnight run by one of the committee - TV Party, at Verve bar on Merrion Street, on the 2nd of October. Union Music Library is the perfect society for anyone who wants to expand their record collection without touching their overdraft, meet like-minded music fans, or for any fresher whose internet connection in halls doesn't quite stretch to illegal downloading.
The Union Music Library is currently housed upstairs in the union, turn left when you see meeting room 8, if you have accessibility queries or want to know about our catelogue please contact us directly, we are happy to help.
