Union Music Library

About Us

Established over forty years ago, The Music library has served generations of music-lovers at Leeds University. If you sign up to be a member, not only will you have access to a collection which boasts around seven thousand CDs and LPs, but you will also become part of a vibrant community of gig-goers, mix-tapers and record collectors.

Our catalogue is updated on a near weekly basis and purchases are based on members' requests. We also host regular socials which consist of anything from informal gatherings to gigs, film screenings and quizzes.

To join for the year, it is only £6 in the first two weeks of term (until 3rd October) and then £10 thereafter. Paying online is easiest (for you and for us), but feel free to come up to the library to do so as well. In order to start borrowing, we need an undated (this is important!) cheque to the value of £20 - this acts as a deposit in case things go missing.  Once you have done this, you can take out one CD or LP at a time for a minimum of one day at a time and a maximum of one week.

With help from a small number of volunteers*, we are open 12-3pm every Monday-Friday. To find us, go up the stairs of the union, turn left when you see cash office, go through the small wooden door and follow the signs. Unfortunately there is no disabled access, although we are working on changing this. If this, or anything else, is a problem, or you have any questions, feel free to contact us and we will do our best to help.

*If you are interested in volunteering (and interested in taking out three records at a time instead of one), contact Patrick at the start of each semester. Just like working in a record store for an hour a week, it gives you the opportunity to meet people, listen to music and enable the smooth running of the Music Library.

If this sounds appealing, come and say hi to us at the general interest Fresher’s fair and pick up a lovingly made mixtape. See you there!
