About Us
Welcome to the Folk Society Page!
Folk society is an open group for anyone with an interest in folk culture whether it’s playing tunes, singing songs, storytelling or just coming along for a listen.
This year we are organising:
- Regular sessions and open mics,
- Workshops to learn new tunes and songs
- Ceilidhs and gigs
and even trips to local festivals!
We welcome new comers to our regular Monday night folk session held at the The Pack Horse Pub close to the University of Leeds on Woodhouse Lane, opposite the Engineering building. Sessions start from 8pm till late. Bring along an instrument to play along, join in with singing or just come and sit back and enjoy the music.
Sessions will start up again from Monday 23rd January and be weekly from then on.
We are holding a GIAG tune/song workshop also on Monday 6th February 2012 where you can learn traditional folk tunes from an experienced musician.
On Tuesday 7th February Folk Society is hosting its very own ceilidh in the Riley Smith hall in Leeds Universty from 7:30pm. Come along for a swing and a do-si-do! Tickets on the door. (discount for Folk soc members). More details to follow for both these events.
Folksoc is a base for those who enjoy listening and joining in with tunes and songs, and is a great opportunity to meet likeminded people, learn and play new tunes together, go to live music gigs and engage in tradition!
Membership is just £3, and will get you cheaper entry into gigs, discounts, special entry to workshops and will guarantee you the right to play at gigs, open mic night or sessions we organise!
Membership to Folk Society will also get you a special 15% DISCOUNT at Hobgoblin Music in Leeds. www.hobgoblin.com/leeds
