About Us

The Rileys 2010 Winners of Best Collaboration

Leeds University Hindu Society aims to encourage and exercise our Hindu dharma whilst providing a home away from home atmosphere. We provide our members with ways to keep in touch with their faith, make new friends and enjoy themselves while doing so.

We start off the year with our hotly anticipated meet and greet event - a chance to get to know the new committee and see all the new faces that freshers' week brings in every year.

Next up is the Leeds Diwali show - a fun-filled night that's looked forward to by not just by our members and other university students, but the local community too. After that, amongst several other things, we have the annual ice skating social; something that everyone awaits with pleasure. Currently the record for most number of people taken out in one fall stands at five - held by the ever megaphone-loving Abs, and who knows, it might even be broken this year!

We also hold regular bollywood/street dance sessions, socials, and aartis. We end with our flagship event: MEHFIL, an inter-university charity talent competition held every year to showcase the best talent from different NHSF chapters.

Being affiliated with NHSF, we take part in national initiatives such as the annual sports competition and Sewa week, which is jam-packed full of fundraising events for our chosen charities: Manav Sadhna - a volunteer run organisation in India working to help poor and needy children; BEHT - a trust encompassing two schools, health care, energy management and a sponsor-a-child scheme (also in India); People in Action - a charity local to us that we regularly volunteer at to help people with learning difficulties and disabilities, and last but not least, we sponsor an Asian elephant based at Corbett National Park in India called 'Kiruba'

Our events never fail to be comical, unforgettable and as always, megaphone-filled! We welcome both Hindus and non-Hindus alike.
