About Us

Now you're in University it is the perfect opportunity to explore a variety of new things and the Baha'i Society, whose aim is to represent the Baha'i Faith at Leeds should definitely be one of them!

The Baha'i Faith is the second most widespread of the world's independent religions, established in 235 countries and territories throughout the world. We come from over 2,100 ethnic, racial, and tribal groups and number some 5 million worldwide.

For more than a century, Baha'i communities around the globe have been working to break down barriers of prejudice between peoples and have collaborated with other like-minded groups to promote the model of a global society. At the heart of our belief is the conviction that humanity is a single people with a common destiny. In the words of Baha'u'llah, the Founder of our Faith, "The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens." Baha'u'llah taught that there is one God who progressively reveals His will to humanity.

Throughout history, God has revealed Himself to humanity through a series of divine Messengers, whose teachings guide and educate us and provide the basis for the advancement of human society. These Messengers have included Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad. Their religions come from the same Source and are in essence successive chapters of one religion from God.

The purpose of our society is to hold activities that are totally inclusive and which deal with social, moral and religious themes. We will be running devotional sessions and having tranquillity zones, which can be a chance for you to relax and meditate and get away from the stress of essays and assignments. We will also be having study circles which are a series of books (eight in total) with quotations from the Holy Writings of the Baha'i Faith and other Faiths. Each book has a different topic, for example the first book is about the life of the soul and contains chapters on life after death.
These books offer a stage for discussion about a great many of topics.

We will also be having guest speakers, speaking on relevant spiritual and global issues. Of course we will also have regular social events such as quiz nights, café trips and evenings out. There is no need to be a member to attend any of our events and you are welcome to email us and we can send you an event list and you turn up to what you fancy and just meet new people. The Baha'i society is the perfect opportunity to share your opinion on real issues, in a relaxed and open atmosphere.
