Faith Groups

Pentagram is Leeds University's society for Paganism, magic(k) and the occult, and is the longest running university Pagan society in the UK, founded in the 1960s.

Activities

This year, we will be running a series of Monday evening sessions about different aspects of Paganism, magic, and the occult, ranging from very practical workshops on creating simple spells and rituals, to talks about the history and beliefs of various forms of Paganism. Any topic that you'd like to learn more about, please feel free to email a member of the committee to request it, and we'll do our best to organise it!

Possible topics include cryptozoology (the study of mythical animals), crystals, tarot, herbs and their uses, elemental magic, alchemy, various religious pantheons (eg Norse Gods, Roman Gods, Celtic Gods and the Mabinogion etc), history of modern religious movements (eg Gardnerian Wiccans, Thelemites, Shamans, Druids, etc)

All of our events will be advertised on our facebook page in advance.

Throughout the year, we hold rituals to celebrate the eight seasonal festivals of the Pagan year - going outside when practical. These are always very sociable and thoroughly fun events, and we do not expect people to have any experience at all to participate!

All these sessions aim to provide starting points, rather than answers: you are welcome to bring your questions, to attend even if you are unsure about participating in any given ritual, and to share your thoughts and experiences. Pentagram welcomes healthy debate as well as those who are interested in simply learning or those who are just curious - and we are perfectly happy to point you in the right direction to find out more if you have any particular interests.

Pentagram is also an excellent platform to learn about and get involved with other societies in and around Leeds, for example local Gardnerian moots or OTO societies.

In addition, we are hoping to reprise our successful weekend trip to Stonehenge, and to take some other day trips, for example the Edinburgh fire festival. Although these events are obviously subject to interest at the time of proposal.

Membership

We are a friendly and eclectic group, and always open to new members of any age or interests.

Membership costs £8 for one year.

Everyone is welcome to join Pentagram, whether or not they are a Leeds University student or staff member, or not even a student at all. You also don't need to be a Pagan to join - over time the society has members who identify as Christians, witches, Ceremonial Magickians, Wiccans, Thelemites, Christian magicians, Pagans, Druids, Quakers, Chaos Magickians, Heathens, Odinists and atheists - and many others who are just interested in the topics we represent. No matter how great or little your experience, we hope that Pentagram will be able to help you learn and develop personally.
