ABOUT US:

We are a group of Buddhists and non-Buddhists who practice meditation and mindfulness together in a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. We also run discussions, socials, events and retreats and enjoy supporting each other. We are open to anyone studying or working at a Further or Higher Education institution in Leeds and are open to people of any culture or faith.

We have two sessions this year.

Monday 2-4 pm in the Conference Hall of the ARC (upstairs in the Union) is a lunchtime session led by everyone who turns up... we can practice mindful walking, eating, have a discussion or sharing, depending on what people want to do on the day.

Wednesday 5-7 pm in Room 5 of the ARC is our main session and is led by one of our teachers (Laura or Lauri- see below). We do nice tings like sitting meditation, walking meditation, deep relaxation, have tea and biscuits (biscuit meditation), share and discuss things with each other and generally have a good time.

We have two different teachers- Laura and Lauri, who come on alternate wednesdays. Laura is a trained Breathworks teacher (http://www.leedsbuddhistcentre.org/index.shtml) and Lauri has been practising meditation for over 20 years in the tradition of Plum Village and Thich Nhat Hanh- visit  http://www.plumvillage.org/ and http://www.wkup.org/ for more infomation.

Try: Beginners are very welcome to turn up any Monday or Wednesday.  You don’t need to bring or wear anything special, although it might be best to avoid very tight jeans! You can come for only part of the session if you have timetable clashes. Send any questions to um10dm@leeds.ac.uk

Join:  Your first session is free.  If you decide you'd like to keep coming then we ask for a membership of £7 a semester or £12 a year.  You can pay by signing into the union websige and then clicking on join this group at the bottom of this page. If you need to pay less than this suggested amount please just have a quiet word with a committee member. Your membership fee goes to covering refreshments, costs for our teachers and our other social activities.
