About Us

The Russian and Slavonic Society is open to all studying or merely interested in Russian and Slavonic languages and culture. We are a small and friendly society where everyone knows everyone, which means that essentially any event you go to is an event with friends, not strangers! We offer activities to suit everyone drawing on all aspects of Russian and Slavonic culture, from weekly "U Samovara" (Around the Samovar) meetings in the Michael Sadler building, to trips to various Russian events happening in and around Leeds.

This year we are also very keen on drawing in students who have either never studied Russian before and would like to know more about the culture or language,  and students who are from a Russian speaking country and would like to be among people who have a love for it themselves.

What: 'U Samovara'

When: Every Friday 13:00 - 15:00  
 
What: Three Russian Plays
Where: Michael Sadler Building Rupert Beckett Lecture Theatre
When: February 26th and 27th at 19:00
 
What: Modern Languages Masquerade Ball
Where: The Marriott Hotel, Leeds.
When: 12/3/13 at 7pm
 
Also watch out for our Maslenitsa celebrations which will be taking place provisionally on the 15th of March in the Grass Foyer. Further details will be provided very soon!
 
As you can see we have many events planned for this term alone! So join for many more events to come! Membership is open to anyone even if you aren't studying Russian and you can find us in the GRASS foyer on the second floor of the Michael Sadler Building every Friday between 13:00 - 15:00, come along for tea/coffee, yummy food and good company!

Help with clubs and societies.

If you need help regarding your club and society, the Development Coordinators, who work in the Union's ARC (the Activities and Resource Centre), provide support, advice and help with all student activities.
