Departmental Groups

Russian and Slavonic

About Us

The Russian and Slavonic Society is open to all studying or merely interested in Russian and Slavonic languages and culture. We offer activities to suit everyone drawing on all aspects of Russian and Slavonic culture, from weekly "U Samovara" (Around the Samovar) meetings in the Michael Sadler building, to trips to various Russian events happening in and around Leeds.

We also keep our members up to date with all things Russian and Slavonic through trips to London for art exhibitons and museums, Pancake Day parties, trips to the ballet and even up our very own Otley Road to celebrate official Russian festivals. The highlight of the year is our Christmas party, involving all members in play performances, songs, readings, quizzes and games, and of course the obligatory after-show party.

Membership is open to anyone even if you aren't studying Russian and you can find us in the GRASS foyer on the second floor of the Michael Sadler Building, so come along every Thursday between 12-2pm for some tea/coffee and Russian times!
