About Us

Hi Everyone,

Leeds LawSoc is a society that aims to present all aspiring lawyers with the skills they need to both have a fantastic university experience alongside developing the skills and competencies that will stand them in good stead for entering the legal world. We do this via a mix of extra-curricular and social activities, with each area being organised by the corresponding member of the committee. Here are just some of the opportunities we provide for our members:

  • Mooting, Debating, Negotiating – From beginners to seasoned public speakers, we run competitions designed to enhance your legal research and performance skills whilst also providing the opportunity to network with local barristers and solicitors. A must for any protégé lawyer!
  • Sports – We have very successful football, rugby, netball and hockey teams with a number of inter-university tournament victories to their names. Look out for messages regarding trials and get involved!
  • Socials – Leeds LawSoc is university-renowned for the spectacular socials that we hold - accessible whether you enjoy to partake in the occasional alcoholic beverage or not! We have socials for all the major occasions throughout the year, as well as trips to Alton Towers, bowling and quiz nights, culminating in the black tie Law Ball towards the end of the year. These events are heavily subsidised and worth the membership cost alone!
  • Social Excursions – As well as our domestic socials, this year we will also be running trips to Dublin and Newquay at phenomenally competitive prices, fiercely negotiated by our social excursions secretary!
  • Careers – We have two secretaries who separately organise trips, presentations, networking events and a careers dinner with the biggest firms in the world to ensure that our members are ahead of the game with securing that ever-important graduate job. We work alongside a fantastic careers service and the student support office to provide a complete package of employability skills and information.
  • Pro Bono – Literally ‘for the public good’, our pro bono secretary (in conjunction with the Law School’s Pro Bono Committee) organises opportunities for our students to engage with the local community, whether that be through the free Legal Advice Clinic, the Streetlaw project, or by becoming an ambassador for the university in local schools. The Innocence Project also provides the opportunity to reopen cases where a prisoner believes there has been a miscarriage of justice.
  • Postgraduates – For our thriving postgraduate community, we also have an elected representative who will be providing research symposiums, additional postgraduate socials, as well as editing the Leeds Law & Criminology Journal to publish outstanding articles and dissertations.

If you have any questions about the LawSoc, please feel free to drop an email to the President Dan Fielding (dan.fielding@leedslawsoc.net) or visit the LawSoc's website.

We look forward to meeting you!
