Electronics (ShockSoc)

About Us

ShockSoc is a free society for Leeds University Electronic and Electrical Engineers at all levels, formed in 2008 to provide the opportunity to socialise, unwind and make friends within the department by participating in a variety of enjoyable activities.

ShockSoc has continued to grow this year, organising a variety of enjoyable events. The first event was an Otley run bar crawl, followed by a bowling night. Small Pub socials after lectures were also spread across the first semester, giving people the opportunity to make new friends within the department. The first semester ended with a successful Christmas chill out party in the foyer, where Wii entertainment, music, food and drink were provided. The second semester set off with a bang with a very successful paintballing event, with more activities to follow including more social and physical activities. Besides these, there have been ongoing sports leagues including Football, Squash and Badminton, with a Tabletennis Tournament coming in the near future, each of which have medals to be won.

Along with the range of social and physical activities, ShockSoc have also designed a society hoody, which will be available to order shortly. It is also affiliated with the IET who provide free membership to first year students as well as a great platform for young engineers to start their careers. The ShockSoc committee are also organising sponsorship with Thales, a major electronic systems company working in a variety of sectors. This will help provide the students with career opportunities, and funds for the society to help organise discounted events.
