Dance Groups

If you've ever wanted to master Riverdance then this is the society for you! The LUU Irish Dance Society offers you the chance to learn traditional Irish dancing, whatever your experience, in a fun, friendly and supportive environment.  Whether absolute beginner or champion dancer, the society welcomes anyone with an interest in the art form and gives you the chance to perform in the annual LUU dance show, local displays, performances in the union and a competition before Christmas. The classes are a great way to keep fit and a fantastic way to meet new people.

Classes are split into ability groups:

Beginners - aimed at people with no previous dancing experience and basic steps in soft shoe are taught.

Intermediate - aimed at people with some dancing experience, whether this is from outside the University or as a progression from the Beginners class. The steps become more complicated and hard shoe dancing is introduced.

Advanced - for those who have Irish danced before at a high level. The pace is faster and the steps are more intricate, in both soft and hard shoe. 

So if you want to get involved in this active, high energy, challenging dance form  then contact us or catch us at the Activities Fair in Fresher’s Week. We also have regular social events so you'll soon meet plenty of fellow Irish dancers!
