Dancesport, (Ballroom and Latin)

About Us

2011 Winner of the Riley's - Best Give It A Go

Leeds University Union Dancesport Club is a long standing society providing the opportunity for people to get together to learn and enjoy Ballroom and Latin style dancing. We hold weekly classes and practice sessions with our professional instructor, Philip Blackburn, in preparation for competitions or just showing off on the dance floor! With us you will be able to learn the ten dances of Ballroom and Latin, ranging from the elegant Waltz all the way to the energetic Jive, and more!

Competitions are held and attended frequently against other universities nationally, and we are proud of our results and unrivalled team spirit. All members can attend these competitions, whether just for fun, to test your new skills or to find a sense of achievement.

Dancesport is a keen participant the annual LUU Dance Show, a huge dance society colabaration at the end of the Spring term. This is a great opportunity to make more friendships within dancing, learn new steps, and to show your friends and family what we can do!

No matter what your level of dance experience, whether you have never danced before or were dancing before you could walk, there are classes to suit you. Bringing a partner isn't necessary, but welcomed!

Plenty of socials are arranged throughout the year, including: bowling, ice skating, karaoke, film nights, meals out, a ledgendary Christmas party, awesome spring ball and the annual holiday!

The society operates in an inclusive manner and has a committee dedicated to running a fun, friendly and successful club. Our members so far have found the society to be a great place to make new and lasting friendships, take your learning at your own pace, and make the most of university social life.

Dancesport is a truly versatile and accommodating society so don't be shy to get involved!
