Circus Skills

About Us

Circus Skills Society (CircSoc) is a friendly and social society where you can come and learn a wide range of circus skills. Our sessions are relaxed and you can pick and choose what you want to try and learn. Everybody is willing to share what they know, so don't be afraid to just ask!

Give It A Go Sessions (GIAG)

Our next Give it a Go session will be 7th February 2012, 7-9pm in the Refectory in the union (if you don't know where this is - ask at the Helpdesk in the Union)

Sessions

We hold weekly sessions at the LeftBank (big old church on Cardigan Road) on Mondays, 8-10pm. We have a wide range of equipment but if you already have some of your own please feel free to bring it along.

Most people who come to our sessions have never done any circus skills before. But that is why we are here - so you can come and learn! You also don't need to worry about hand/eye coordination, nobodys is great but it develops naturally with whatever you choose to learn.

At the sessions, everybody practices what they want and everybody is willing to share what they know. However, we also hold frequent workshops to teach you specific skills and techniques to help you improve.

Getting to Sessions

We will be holding frequent 'walk-downs' where a committee member will be at an arranged meeting point (usually the Parkinson Building steps) and everybody can walk to the LeftBank together.

Here is a link to the LeftBank from Parkinson Building steps - Google Maps Link. It is a 10-20 minute walk.

Socials/Events

We hold a wide range of social events throughout the year. Past events have included a Circus of Horrors night, Diskopartizani (Gypsy Punk and Balakan Beats), Nights out (such as to Mooks and Wendyhouse) as well as general get togethers at each others houses. We also plan to make trips further afield such as to the British Juggling Convention (BJC). In the past, trips have included a CircSoc holiday in Amsterdam.

Fire Nights

As well as using normal circus equipment, we also offer training to members in the use fire circus equipment. Fire nights are organised nights where fire equipment can be used in a controlled and safe environment. Members using fire equipment must be approved to do so by a committee member to ensure that they are trained sufficiently to use the equipment safely. You will be trained in how to safely use fire equipment and fire nights offer an ideal opportunity to practice in a controlled and supervised evironment around experienced people. Fire nights are always a fun and exciting occasion where many new skills can be learnt.

Membership

Sessions cost £2 and our yearly membership costs only £6 which gets you discounted entry into a variety of social events throughout the year.

Sessions cost £3 without membership.
