  • Leeds University Union has one of the largest BUCS programmes in the country with 76 BUCS teams and 32 BUCS Championship Individual events entered by our members

  • There are currently 36 Sports,12 Martial Arts and 18 outdoor clubs

  • 12000 people attended the Varsity finale rugby match at Headingley stadium

The Sports Colours and Scholarships Awards Dinner will take place on Wednesday 1st May at the University Refectory, with Welcome Drinks from 6.45pm. Winners and Nominees can purchase a discounted ticket of £28, with Guest Tickets at £30. Tickets are now available to buy online (below) or from the LUU helpdesk (only for Nominees unable to purchase online). Only named individual winners/nominees are eligible for the discounted tickets. Those nominated in the Team Category will be required to purchase the guest ticket.

The price of the ticket includes entry to the event, a three course meal, complimentary drinks, entertainment and a complementary after party ticket. Tickets will be on sale until midnight 21st April 2013 and Tickets for the after party will be put on general sale for those not attending the Awards. The Colours Awards Dinner is an opportunity to recognise the outstanding efforts of students and coaches from our Sports, Martial Arts, Outdoor and Competing Dance Groups. Congratulations to all Winners and Nominees. This is always a fun and enjoyable event where we get to thank you for all your efforts over the past year. We look forward to seeing you there.

Club Colours

To qualify for these awards, the person must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Non committee member who has gone above and beyond, exceeding their role and responsibilities, off the field, for their Club(s)
  • Committee Member who has gone above and beyond, exceeding the requirements of their elected role within the Club(s)

Full Colours

To qualify for these awards, the person must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • National Level representation (1st Team Squad) E.g. Yorkshire Jets, Leeds Carnegie etc. Must also represent the University.
  • International Student Squad Selection
  • 2+ Years in BUCS 1st Team playing at Tier 1 or above (at least one year at highest level attainable for that club)
  • BUCS Individual Bronze or Silver
  • Achieve a placing which could be considered exceptional depending on the merits of the event e.g. Marathon
  • Selection to International Training Squad (without making Final Squad)

White Rose Award

To qualify for this award, the nominee must meet the following criteria:

  • Nominees will have provided exceptional contribution to LUU Sport in a non playing capacity during their time at the University

Unsuccessful nominees for this award will be considered for Club Colours.

The Gryphon Award

To qualify for this award, the person must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Full International Selection, must also represent the University
  • BUCS Individual Gold
  • Individual National Champion (if non-BUCS)

Unsuccessful nominees for this Award will be considered for Full Colours.

Mike Brook Award for Most Improved Team

To qualify for this award, the person must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Team (not Club) which has shown significant improvement based on previous season

"Lower" League Teams and Conference Cup Winning Teams can be considered for most improved, but not Team of the Year

Mike Brook Award for Performance Coach of the Year

To qualify for this award, the person must meet the following criteria:

  • Nominees will be assessed on how their influence has added positively to the playing performance of the club

Susan Jacklin Award for Club Coach of the Year

To qualify for this award, the person must meet the following criteria:

  • Nominees will be assessed on how their influence has added positively to the overall experience of club members

Chris Hatton Award for Most Improved Athlete

To qualify for this award, the person must meet the following criteria:

  • Nominees will have had no experience of their new chosen sport before arriving at University
  • Nominees will have excelled into a 1st Team Player/achieved an Individual Event placing

Team of the Year Award

To qualify for this award, the team must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be playing at highest level for their sport (eg BUCS Prem)

Teams winning Leagues/Conference Cups below that level can be considered for Most Improved Team Award.

Roberts Award for Most Outstanding Athlete

To qualify for this award, the person must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Full International Selection and Representation
  • One of the top Individual Performers in the country for their sport

Club of the Year Award

Must give evidence of how the club has excelled in areas such as:

  • Management & Administration (including Facilities, NGB partnership, committee Roles & Responsibilities, Governance, Health & Safety, Membership, Financial Processes, Communication Processes)
  • Performance (including Recruitment, Retention, Coaching Infrastructure, on Pitch Success and Player Development through Player Pathway)
  • Commercial (including Financial viability, Financial Sustainability, Income Generation, Sponsorship, Profiling and Advertising, Website, and Media)
  • Social (including Inclusiveness, Accessibility, Culture and Reputation)

Other areas that can be considered are:

  • Community engagement
  • Charity work
  • Overall engagement with relevant stakeholder (LUU, SPA etc)
  • Give It a Go
  • Intramural
