Leeds University Union has been named the number one students’ union in Britain, by the people who really know – the students.
In the recent NUS awards ceremony held in London, Leeds University Union won the ‘NUS Higher Education Union of the Year’ award. Leeds was selected from over 60 students' unions across the UK for this award.
This is the first time Leeds has won this prestigious NUS award, which recognises outstanding achievement and demonstration of best practice in a higher education students’ union. This award is in association with the Student Union Evaluation Initiative (SUEI), where Leeds was the only students’ union in the country to receive the gold award in July last year.
Leeds continues to develop and improve the Union, and its services, for its students, in a variety of ways. Staying at the forefront, the Union is currently undergoing a strategic review and will be announcing its new four year plan in the near future.
Laura McFarlane-Shopes, Communications and Internal Affairs Officer said: “Leeds University Union is an organisation that constantly aspires to improve itself by campaigning harder, reaching more students and providing the better possible service to every member who comes through our door. This award is a credit to the long term vision, hard work and dedication from our staff and students, and we are very proud.”
Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Arthur added: “This is a fantastic achievement by our students, and is richly-deserved recognition for all their hard work.”
