Leeds University Union has a diverse and well developed student activity programme incorporating over 260 different student activity groups. The Student Activities department supports each of these groups on a day to day level. We are looking to recruit a team member to offer support to the student volunteering groups while learning all of the practical skills and gaining experience for a future career in volunteer support or community development work.
This role would be part of the Volunteering & Community team and would involve working with the leaders of our volunteering projects in recruiting, training and supporting their teams of volunteers to deliver high quality community projects. You will also be required to develop and deliver the new ‘Community Skills Project’ which will involve working with small local charities and community organisations to identify skills gaps which they may have and then finding the right student volunteer to fill the gap.
We are looking for a dynamic individual with experience of working in a democratic student led environment and an understanding of community development and volunteer support including the health & safety considerations for working with volunteers and vulnerable clients. You will be able to effectively manage resources, communicate effectively with a wide range of people and be able to use Microsoft Office packages and social networking sites such as Facebook.
